Gannett Co. Inc. reported today that its third-quarter earnings per share were 31 cents, down from 69 cents in the third quarter of 2008. Third-quarter operating revenues fell to $1.3 billion in 2009 from $1.6 billion in 2008. The company reduced operating expenses to $1.2 billion in 2009 from $1.4 billion in 2008. Bank of America Corp. had a net loss applicable to common shareholders of $2.2 billion, or 26 cents per share, the company announced late Friday. Those results compare to a net income of $704 million, or 15 cents per share for the third quarter of 2008. Through three quarters, the company has a net income of $3 billion, or 39 cents per share, compared with a net income of $4.9 billion at this time last year or $1.09 per share, during the same period a year earlier. The Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center received a $125,000 gift from the Kruidenier Charitable Foundation in support of its Campaign for Hope and Healing. The Campaign for Hope and Healing is a $3.6 million project entailing land acquisition and construction of a new facility to house the counseling center, which would double the current leased space and provide room to employ eight to 10 new licensed counselors.
