96 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and Law, Real Estate and DevelopmentLegislation has been introduced in the Iowa House that would prevent cities from using tax increment financing to pay for public buildings, including police and fire stations, libraries, city halls and any other public building that is exempt from taxes. It also would sunset urban renewal areas that currently have no life span. There is no indication that House File 628 will make it out of the Ways and Means Committee, but the fact that it was filed is an indication that the debate over the use of TIF funds to spur economic development has not withered.
