A pair of creative Cedar Rapids entrepreneurs have come together to kick off the holiday season with “A Christmas Shopping Shindig” aimed at supporting small businesses — especially those that are women-owned.

The event, set for Nov. 20 at Ashton Hill Farm, is the brainchild of Jess Denton of Monroe + Co. and Meegan Hofmeister of the Dostal House. The Christmas shopping experience is intended to highlight female-founded local small businesses.

“The idea to host A Christmas Shopping Shindig is really an extension of the CreatHer Collabs we host on a monthly basis,” said Denton, who co-founded CreatHer Collabs with Hofmeister. “Every month, Meegan and I host an event with the purpose of bringing like-minded women together to learn from and alongside each other. We spend a day creating beautiful content for each individual’s personal brands and businesses, and getting expert advice on how to advance our businesses forward via a social media marketing workshop focused on a specific tip or trick.”

Denton said the shindig event is an expansion of the concept meant to support women-owned businesses in a bigger way, with a little “holiday spirit.” More than 20 women-owned local small businesses will set up shop from 4 to 8 p.m. in a sort of holiday market.

“We are working really hard to make this event a holiday experience unlike any other and creating one to remember, both for the business owners and the shoppers who attend,” Hofmeister said. “With Jess being a master photographer and my extensive background in retail, there is extra attention being paid to making sure every square inch of this event is perfect for posting on social media and elevating the shopper’s experience. We are thrilled to be collaborating with some of Iowa’s most creative girl bosses to offer a wide variety of products, services and experiences … and who knows, maybe we’re starting a new holiday shopping tradition here?”

In addition to shopping, the event includes live wreath making, Christmas cookie decorating, decking the halls, Christmas caroling and a Santa sighting.

“Another something special about this particular holiday market is the vendors themselves,” Hofmeister added, with shoppers supporting female-founded small businesses, such as the Bag Broker, Catherine’s Boutique, Pretty Lane, Mode, Dot+Dash Boutique, M and M Books, Simply Savvy Living, the Agenda, Virtue Salon+Spa, the Vinyl Studio, Wells Cooperative, Meadow and Brook Boutique, Cielo Goods, and Hydrangea Bloom.
