West Des Moines representative Kevin Trevillyan has resigned from the board of the Metro Waste Authority over a one-year contract for director Michael McCoy, The Des Moines Register reported. Trevillyan called the contract offered after a June 15 closed meeting a “backroom deal” and questioned whether McCoy was qualified to take the helm. McCoy, a Clive councilman, had served on the waste authority board before he joined the staff. Trevillyan said he resigned because of the decision to hire McCoy, but didn’t elaborate. McCoy had served as interim executive director since January when director Reo Menning resigned. McCoy led a committee that reviewed Menning’s performance. She resigned in a closed meeting before the committee shared results of the review. McCoy will be paid $141,000 for the year.
