U.S. continues wind energy boom

Wind power additions rebounded in 2014, with 4,854 megawatts of new capacity added in the United States, representing $8.3 billion in new investments, the U.S. Department of Energy reported. The wind industry grew to 65.9 gigawatts of total installed wind capacity, roughly an 8 percent growth over 2013. The United States now has enough installed wind energy capacity to power more than 17.5 million homes. Since 2007, wind power has represented 33 percent of all U.S. capacity additions. Iowa continues to lead the nation in percentage of power generated from wind, at 28.5 percent based on 2014 figures. Read more
