U.S. job openings rose in July

The number of job openings again rose 5.8 million at the end of July, the highest since December 2000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The growth in job openings occurred mostly in private industry, specifically in the categories of professional and business services,  accommodation and food services, retail trade, and nondurable goods manufacturing. Over the 12 months ending July 2015, hires totaled 60.6 million and separations totaled 57.8 million, yielding a net employment gain of 2.7 million.
