Unemployment insurance claims up
A report from the U.S. Department of Labor today said initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 27,000 in the week ended April 9 to a seasonally adjusted rate of 412,000, Reuters reported.
The rise interrupted a downward trend that had kept the number below the 400,000 threshold for four weeks. That level is normally associated with steady job growth. Many economists predicted that claims would fall to 380,000.
