UnityPoint-Des Moines, UI Labor Center, iJAG receive Future Ready Iowa apprenticeship funds
Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG), UnityPoint Health-Des Moines and the University of Iowa Labor Center will receive funding as part of Future Ready Iowa’s Registered Apprenticeship programs and Quality Pre-Apprenticeship programs, according to a release from Iowa Workforce Development. The grants are intended to enhance opportunities in health care and advanced manufacturing, the fastest growing and largest employment sectors in the state, as well as increasing the participation of women, youths, minorities, veterans and people with disabilities. UnityPoint Health-Des Moines is receiving $75,000 to start a Registered Apprenticeship Program in the health care sector, iJAG is receiving $10,000 to provide ongoing support of a Quality Pre-Apprenticeship program, and the University of Iowa Labor Center is receiving $125,000 to start a Quality Pre-Apprenticeship pilot program. Iowa Workforce Development received an additional $1 million ApprenticeshipUSA State Expansion Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to improve Registered Apprenticeship opportunities in Iowa. These three organizations selected to receive funding through the expansion grant are in addition to the 10 schools and organizations that received funding from the grant in September 2018.
