Urbandale Chamber to honor businesses, Citizen of the Year on Sept. 21

The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce will recognize Doug Gulling as the Citizen of the Year and honor three Business of the Year and three Small Business of the Year nominees during Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business on Sept. 21. The Business of the Year nominees include Homemakers Furniture, R&R Realty Group and Superstorm Restoration. The Small Business of the Year nominees include Fully Promoted Urbandale, The Change Dance and the Urbandale Food Pantry. Gulling, who has been involved in the Urbandale community for decades, was named chief financial officer of West Bank in 2001 and retired in 2021. He was elected as the Urbandale Community School board president in 2004 and served as president of the board of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. The West Bank Corporation Foundation was established in 2003 as a result of Gulling’s advocacy and has granted in excess of $5 million to community nonprofits. Gulling continues to serve on the board of directors of West Bank and its parent company.
