The Urbandale City Council has approved a site plan for a 56,000-square-foot expansion of the Ramada Inn, 5000 Merle Hay Road

Among the planned improvements are an indoor water park, conference center with meeting rooms, new suites and 166 remodeled rooms.

Plans are to demolish an adjacent Burger King to make room for additional parking spaces. City staff said that contractors have begun demolishing and remodeling interior rooms.

Staff also noted that the site plan represented a slightly smaller project than was contained in initial plans that were presented in 2007 to the city’s planning and zoning commission.
