The city of Urbandale hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new trench training site on Friday. The new site is designed to advance training for emergency responders and construction professionals. The new facility provides scenarios that will allow responders to simulate real-life trench emergencies. “Trench safety is one of the single largest areas of focus for our members,” Kim Frey, executive director of the Iowa Chapter of the National Utility Contractors Association, said in a prepared statement. “Our members and their hardworking employees recognize the inherent risks associated with underground utility work. Without proper planning, a situation can become dangerous in an instant.” The Iowa Chapter of the National Utility Contractors Association provided a donation that helped fund the creation of the training site.
