Van Orsdel ‘big house’ is for sale, again

204 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentJeff and Kim Young’s We Can Build It LC has sold the Midland Building at 206 Sixth Ave., a historic structure they took off the hands of a bank, and now they are selling the former home of businessman William Van Orsdel. They took the home, often called the “big house,” off the hands of Van Orsdel’s former partners in West Glen Town Center, who acquired the property in a legal dispute. We Can Build It acquired the 99-year-old, nearly 9,000-square-foot elegant brick structure at 3407 Lincoln Place Drive in April for $1.1 million. The property has been listed for a little more than a month at a price of $1.5 million. Realtor Rick Wanamaker said the house, which has been vacant, is “move-in ready.” Improvements have been made to mechanical systems. In 2013, the Youngs bought property on the south side of Lincoln Place Drive that also was part of the Van Orsdel estate. On July 28, a Davenport-based limited liability company paid $2.1 million for the Midland Building. We Can Build It LC bought the building for $1 million in 2013 from Community State Bank, which took possession of the property after the death in July 2008 of businessman Ed Boesen. Read more
