Volunteers needed to count bicyclists, walkers in Des Moines

133 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawDes Moines Parks and Recreation needs more than 100 volunteers to participate in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project, which provides data that helps the city obtain grant funding for recreational trails and on-street bicycle facilities, evaluates usage of current amenities and helps identify locations of future facilities. Volunteers will be asked to count bicyclists and pedestrians on roads, sidewalks and trails in more than 20 locations on Sept. 15 and 16 from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. and on Sept. 19 from 11:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. As a reward, volunteers will have their choice of a free bike rental at Gray’s Lake Park each time they volunteer or free 2016 Des Moines Mayor’s Annual Ride registration if they volunteer for more than one shift.
