Facebook Inc. is starting into a new frontier, The Wall Street Journal reported: movies.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. announced today that it will begin offering selected movies through the social media site. Warner Bros., owned by Time Warner Inc., is offering Facebook users the option to stream “The Dark Knight” directly through the site.

The rental will cost consumers 30 Facebook credits, or $3, for a 48-hour viewing period.

Consumers will have full Facebook functionality during the viewing experience, including the ability to post comments and status updates, interact with their friends and view advertisements.

“Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts.”
