The Weitz Co. of Des Moines generated more than $49 million in revenues on sustainable retail construction projects, Engineering News-Record (ENR) reported. The revenues placed Weitz third among builders of retail developments. 

The revenues reflected projects that sought certification from independent, third-party organizations that grade sustainability standards, such the U.S. Green Building Council. Weitz was ranked 67th in ENR’s list of the top 100 green contractors. Two other contractors with substantial operations in Greater Des Moines were recognized. JE Dunn Construction Co., based in Kansas City, Mo., with operations in West Des Moines, ranked 16th, with green construction making up 40 percent of its revenues.

Minneapolis-based Ryan Companies. US Inc., which has an office in West Des Moines, ranked 76th, with sustainable projects making up 22 percent of its revenues.
