Earlier this summer, The Wellmark Foundation announced a new Community Kickstarter grant program that will provide up to $10,000 to 35 projects in Iowa and South Dakota focused on making communities more active or improving access to healthy foods. Beginning today, the public can vote for more than 120 projects in Iowa and South Dakota that they would like to see selected for one of the grants. These one-time grants are a new way to get community health improvement projects started, through community participation. The public can vote for its favorite project by visiting Wellmark.com/Foundation. A brief description of each project, including photos and videos, is available on the website for voters to review. People may vote for one project per day, per IP address through midnight, Oct. 7. Public voting is one of the final factors the foundation will use to select winners. The 35 winning projects will be announced Nov. 9.
