Wellmark rolls out new individual plans
Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa announced yesterday it has extended its Blue Advantage health maintenance organization (HMO) plans, previously offered only to groups, to the individual market in Iowa. The three plans – premier, health savings account and standard option – will enable individuals to “choose the amount of health care access they want, and select premiums and out-of-pocket costs that are best suited to their financial situations and the way they use health care,” Wellmark Chairman and CEO John Forsyth said in a press release. Each plan offers preventive care services with no deductibles or co-pays, and access to Wellmark’s network of doctors and hospitals. The April 1 effective date of the plans coincides with the company’s 9.35 percent premium increase on existing individual plans approved by state regulators on Dec. 30.
