Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines has tapped Ladco Development Inc. to construct a medical office building on the city’s east side.
Mercy Capitol Urgent Care Clinic, Mercy Clinics Inc.’s fifth urgent care clinic in Greater Des Moines, will occupy about 2,000 square feet of the space, said Sharon Phillips, vice president of operations.
The remaining space will be shared by Mercy East Village Family Practice and Mercy Capitol Internal Medicine, which will relocate from an existing medical office building at 1300 Des Moines St., just west of the proposed site.
Mercy Clinics has signed a letter of intent to occupy the proposed single-story building and is considering a 10-year lease, Phillips said.
“I think it’s a great service to central and east Des Moines,” she said. “We’re very excited to be offering it.”
Ball Construction Services LLC is slated to begin construction in August, said Tamera Hanson, Ladco Development’s marketing communications director.
The new facility is expected to open in 2010.
Joe LeValley, Mercy Medical Center’s senior vice president of planning and advocacy, said Mercy will have an opportunity to fill the space it vacates at 1300 Des Moines St., also owned by Ladco Development, with other yet-to-be-determined services.
LeValley said the state of Iowa has signed an agreement to purchase Mercy Medical Center’s Mercy Capitol hospital at 603 E. 12th St. The sale is expected to close in late fall or early winter, following the September opening of Mercy Medical Center – West Lakes hospital.
