Abundance

Des Moines Public Library business book pick: Abundance, by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson.

Why you should read it:
Abundance argues that many of today’s crises — housing, labor shortages, climate inaction — stem from decades of underbuilding and outdated regulations. Klein and Thompson reveal how well-intentioned rules from the past now hinder urgently needed progress. The book calls for a shift toward a “politics of abundance” that recognizes institutional failure, encourages bold public action and balances regulatory caution with the need to build. It offers a bipartisan path forward, urging both liberals and conservatives to rethink their assumptions to meet today’s challenges with solutions that are ambitious, inclusive and future-focused.
