Disposing of old medicine can reduce prescription drug abuse

Iowans turned in more than two tons of unused medicines at more than 40 collection sites last month.

The Prescription Drug Take-Back event in Iowa collected 4,399 pounds of prescription drugs, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Nationally, more than 244 tons of unused medicines were collected in the effort to reduce prescription drug abuse.
