The Business Record and its affiliated publications are 1 week old under new ownership with a familiar face.

In a deal that closed Nov. 1, a company created by former owner Connie Wimer purchased the publications from a holding company that had bought the Business Record from the bankruptcy estate of Ohio-based Brown Publishing Co.

Brown filed to reorganize its finances under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code earlier this year, citing $94 million in debts to a group of lenders led by PNC Bank of Philadelphia.

Wimer’s Business Publications Corp. sold the Business Record, dsm magazine and a number of custom periodicals to Brown in 2007, a year when the company was acquiring similar properties in New York, Ohio and Texas.

Ohio Community Media LLC, a holding company created by Brown’s lenders, bought the majority of the company, including daily and weekly newspapers in Ohio, in September after Brown insiders failed to obtain financing to buy back the properties.

Wimer created Business Publication Corporation Inc. to purchase her former business for an undisclosed price. “I intend to own it for a long time,” she said.
