Works in progress: Koch Facial Plastic Surgery
Koch to triple space with new West Des Moines clinic building
A growing facial plastic surgery practice prompted Dr. Brenton Koch to build a new West Des Moines office that will open May 1. The new building at 4855 Mills Civic Parkway will provide Koch Facial Plastic Surgery with a 5,000-square-foot clinic space, three times larger than its present facility in Des Moines.
“My demographic has continued to move west, and this is a prime location, right off of the interstate,” said Koch, whose practice is currently located on 40th Street between Ingersoll and Grand avenues.
A large two-story lobby will accommodate classes and seminars offered by the clinic, with an open staircase leading to the second-floor office spaces. The ground floor will feature three spa rooms, a surgery suite, four clinic rooms, a break room and administrative offices. Upstairs, 4,800 square feet will be available for lease.
Koch, a Drake University graduate who earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He has practiced for 10 years in Des Moines, specializing in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, including facelifts, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and brow lifts as well as non-surgical procedures such as Botox injections.
Though 90 percent of the practice is devoted to elective cosmetic procedures, Koch also performs other types of surgeries, such as facial reconstructions for cancer patients and trauma victims.
Koch said he plans to bring on a partner in facial plastic surgery within a year, and will also be adding a nutrition and weight-loss component to the practice as well as age management and longevity counseling services. He also plans to hire a second physician assistant as well as a registered dietitian/nutritionist.
The development project is not the first for Koch, who is an owner or partner in a half-dozen other commercial properties in Greater Des Moines. Among those, he’s a partner in the West Lakes Surgery Center building on the Mercy Wellness Campus in Clive as well as another medical office building in West Des Moines.
“It’s fun to create things, not necessarily just with skin and sutures, but with buildings, too,” Koch said.
