The following is a schedule of events open free to the public during the annual World Food Prize week. 

Throughout this week, past World Food Prize laureates will speak at locales and university campusesand other locales across Iowa about improving the quality, quantity and availability of food throughout the world. For a complete list of lectures, click here

Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m., there will be an interfaith service to celebrate Daniel Hillel, recipient of the 2012 World Food Prize, and his contributions at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 Sixth Ave.

Hillel will be honored for his role in conceiving and implementing a new way of bringing water to crops in arid regions. His scientific work in Israel revolutionized food production, first in the Middle East, and then in other regions around the world over the past five decades.

The “Borlaug Dialogue” International Symposium will take place Wednesday through Friday and will be available online. The symposium  will focus on the theme “The Next Generation: Confronting the Hunger Challenges of Tomorrow.” It will bring more than 1,000 visitors from more than 70 countries to Des Moines to address cutting-edge issues in food security and nutrition. A number of the Borlaug Dialogue sessions will be webcast live, available free to the public to watch.

And on Thursday at 7 p.m. there will be a live broadcast of the World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony, which will take place at the Iowa State Capitol. The ceremony will draw more than 800 honored guests and world-class performers. The event will be televised on Iowa Public Television and webcast live online.
