YPC aims to educate more than just young professionals with Nonprofit Forum

The Young Professionals Connection (YPC) will hold its fourth annual Nonprofit Forum on Sept. 22, but this one is a little different.

The first three events were geared toward letting young professionals learn about other organizations they could get involved with to help the community. This year, YPC is looking for attendees from throughout Greater Des Moines, not just the young professional crowd.

“What we’ve decided to do is take the nonprofit forum and really roll this out to the entire community and say, ‘Hey, whether you’re a young professional or not, this is a great time to learn more about all the different nonprofits in Des Moines and decide where you want to give back,’” said YPC President Jason Wells.

The event will have displays from 40 nonprofit organizations. Spots were filled up within days of YPC opening reservations, Wells said. Groups that didn’t get signed up will have the opportunity to submit pamphlets that will be available in a resource center at the event.

The forum, which takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jasper Winery, 2400 George Flagg Parkway, is free to the public, and nonprofits were allowed to reserve a display booth at no charge.

“The nonprofit forum, I think, just really symbolizes Des Moines as a whole,” Wells said. “One of the great things about the Des Moines community is people love the opportunity to give back, and I think the nonprofit forum is the perfect opportunity to learn about all the different ways you can.”
