The city of Des Moines’ engineering department will accept bids until April 26 for demolition of the former YWCA building at 717 Grand Ave. The project is described as involving “protection of the existing skywalk structures which will remain in place, site clearance and disconnection of utilities,” as well as demolition.

The brick-on-masonry building was built in 1970 and stands five stories tall. The city purchased it from the YWCA of Greater Des Moines last year for $490,000.
