$100,000 grant launches Hoyt Sherman Place capital campaign
Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation has received a $100,000 leadership grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines in support of a fundraising campaign to expand the historic cultural center. The expansion — which the nonprofit plans to formally announce with the kickoff of the capital campaign this fall — will improve the backstage area of the theater and patron areas to make them more convenient and ADA compliant. The expansion will add a new annex on the northeast side of the complex. The additions will provide an opportunity for Hoyt Sherman Place to attract additional talent, to enhance programming in the art gallery space, to make the facility more accessible to community groups for a variety of functions and to open up the residence of the original mansion for guests to experience, the organization said in a news release. “This funding propels the expansion project forward and provides a wonderful boost during the silent phase of our fundraising efforts,” said Robert Warren, executive director of Hoyt Sherman Place.
