18 commercial permits issued for new projects in September

297 wordsAll Latest News, Economic Development, Real Estate and DevelopmentCommercial building permits valued at more than $130.2 million were issued in September for new projects in the Des Moines area, including for one for the new Dave & Buster’s entertainment venue in West Des Moines, a review shows.
In all, 18 permits were issued for new commercial projects in the 14 jurisdictions surveyed by the Business Record.
Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 201 commercial building permits were issued for new projects in the Des Moines area. The value of the new permits totals more than $1.42 billion.
Highlights from September’s review include:
• A permit valued at $5.1 million that was issued for the construction of a 22,000-square-foot building that will house a Dave & Buster’s entertainment facility. The building is located at 190 S. Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Dave & Buster’s is a popular Texas-based arcade and sports bar chain that began planning a West Des Moines location in early 2020. The company halted new store developments when the pandemic began.
• A permit valued $16.9 million that was issued for a seven-story mixed-use building that will include street-level commercial space and 110 apartment units. The project by Heart of America is located 317 E. Sixth Street in Des Moines’ East Village neighborhood district.
• A permit valued at $11.3 million that was issued for the renovation of Prairie Meadows Casino and Hotel at 1 Prairie Meadows Drive in Altoona. Polk County owns the hotel. Construction of the 168-room hotel was completed in 2010.
