2019 Women of Achievement honorees announced
Women Lead Change has announced the 2019 class of honorees for the Women of Achievement Awards to be celebrated at the Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge in Des Moines on June 8. The three newest honorees are: Theresa “Billee” Davis, a Women’s Army Corps commander during World War II and attorney who was the first female county bar president in the state; Willie Stevenson Glanton, civil rights champion who was the first African American woman to be appointed city clerk, assistant county attorney and to serve in the Iowa Legislature; and Ola Babcock Miller, an educator and active participant in the suffrage movement who was Iowa’s first female secretary of state and was instrumental in the formation of the Iowa Highway Safety Patrol. The three honorees, chosen from 29 historical women, will be commemorated with permanent plaques on the Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge.
