The first cohort of Des Moines students who are part of an innovative tuition guarantee program for low-income students are beginning to enroll for the fall 2018 semester at Iowa State University. Denisse San Elias was in the eighth grade when ISU made a promise to her and every student at King and Moulton elementary schools in the ISU 4U Promise program: If they stayed and succeeded in school, they could qualify for free tuition at ISU. Five years later and now a senior at East High, San Elias is realizing the significance of that promise. A majority of the 22 eligible students, including San Elias, qualify for a 100 percent tuition award. To read an ISU News Service story about the program, click here.
