$26 million warehouse, distribution facility planned in Des Moines
A Des Moines-based logistics and supply chain company is proposing to construct a 305,760-square-foot building that will be used for distribution and light assembly on 38 acres of undeveloped ground at 1717 E. Army Post Road, the Des Moines City Council learned this week.
The company, ExodusDirect, has a facility at 1825 E. Army Post Road, just east of where the new facility is planned.
The nearly $26 million project will create 180 jobs and is expected to be completed in November 2023, according to a city document.
The council this week approved preliminary terms of an urban renewal development agreement with the company. The project would receive up to a little more than $9 million from project-generated tax-increment financing over a 15-year period, according to preliminary terms of the agreement approved by the council. The company also plans to seek three years of tax abatement.
The council approved the preliminary terms of the agreement. Before the vote, Councilperson Josh Mandelbaum asked the city staff to ensure “that we continue to require energy efficiency above and beyond what the code requires and that policies that we’ve been informally putting in place apply to agreements like this.” He abstained from voting.
