Six Iowa restaurants and bars have been cited by the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division for violating the state’s COVID-19-related safety regulations.

The alcohol division announced in late July that it would begin taking additional steps to enforce compliance with a public health disaster proclamation issued by Iowa. Gov. Kim Reynolds.

According to the state agency, citations were issued to:

  • Bo-James in Iowa City. The state alleges that on Aug. 28 the establishment failed to ensure customers were 6 feet apart from each other, failed to ensure that food was served with alcoholic beverages, and failed to ensure that all customers were seated while consuming their food and beverages.
  • Cube Ultra Lounge in Council Bluffs. The state alleges that on Sept. 4 the establishment failed to ensure physical distancing between customers and failed to ensure that customers were seated while consuming beverages and food.
  • Xcaret Club and Lounge in West Des Moines. The state alleges that on Aug. 22, the establishment failed to ensure physical distancing between customers and failed to ensure that customers were seated while consuming beverages and food.
  • Shotgun Betty’s in West Des Moines. The state alleges that on Aug. 22 the establishment failed to ensure customers were physically distanced from each other, failed to ensure that food was served with alcoholic beverages, and failed to ensure that all customers were seated while consuming their food and beverages.
  • Knights of Pythias – Furgerson Lodge #5 in Waterloo. The state alleges that on Sept. 9 the establishment was open to the general public. Reynolds at the time had ordered bars closed.
  • Edo’s Sports Bar in Waterloo. The state alleges that the establishment failed to ensure customers were physically distanced from each other, failed to ensure that food was served with alcoholic beverages, and failed to ensure that all customers were seated while consuming their food and beverages.
