A plan to construct a multistory apartment building west of Grand Prairie Parkway in Waukee is moving through the city’s development process. The City Council this week approved a request to rezone 2.28 acres west of Grand Prairie and north of Southeast Encompass Drive to allow the construction of the apartment building, part of which will be four stories and another part five stores. The land had been zoned for office development. Two groups, Fish 174 LLC and CHCR LLC, are proposing to build an 87-unit structure that would includes apartments ranging in size from 375 square feet to 600 square feet. The units will be marketed to small families and individuals “who desire less space and more amenities in and around the building,” according to a city document. An entertainment district is proposed south of the proposed apartment development.
