D.M. farmers market wins ag award
The winners of this year’s Agriculture Leader Awards included the Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market, which started in a small parking lot in 1976 and now draws 25,000 people and 300 vendors. The market won a community leadership award. Fareway Stores Inc. won a Leadership in Advocacy award, partnering with local businesses, communities and farmers. Foundation Analytical Laboratory of Cherokee won an innovation award. And the Ag Literacy Foundation won an education leadership award.
