Canadian industrial hemp grower to speak at Iowa Farm Bureau summit
A Canadian industrial hemp grower and a plant science coordinator from the Iowa Department of Agriculture will speak at the 2019 Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Economic Summit on June 28 to answer farmers’ questions about growing industrial hemp in Iowa, the Farm Bureau announced Wednesday. Adam Ornawka, a farmer from Saskatchewan, and Robin Pruisner, state entomologist and plant science chief ag security coordinator at the ag department, will speak about Ornawka’s experiences adding hemp to small grain crop rotation and the potential timeline of starting hemp production in Iowa. The 2018 Farm Bill opened the door for states to allow hemp production.
