Girls Rock Des Moines announced that it has received a grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to help purchase equipment and instruments for an eight-member band. Girls Rock Des Moines was established in 2013 to empower girls and gender-expansive, nonbinary and trans youths through music education, workshops and performance opportunities. In a statement, Girls Rock Des Moines director Rachel Gulick thanked Variety for helping the organization “ensure that every musician gets to share their unique voice with the world, so that no song goes unsung.” The grant amount was not disclosed in the announcement.
