Lawyer named honorary consul of Canada 
The government of Canada has appointed Mary Lawyer as the honorary consul of Canada in Iowa. As honorary consul, Lawyer will work with the Consulate General of Canada in Minneapolis to engage Iowa businesses and public officials to promote trade relations and business growth. The Consulate General in Minneapolis represents Canada in Minnesota, Nebraska and the Dakotas. Lawyer, who formerly served as president of the Des Moines Downtown Community Alliance and director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development, is a consultant with LPCA Public Strategies in Des Moines. She also serves as the state leader for the Blue Zones Project, part of the Healthiest State initiative.
