Des Moines a top 5 employment city since 2000
Des Moines is tied for the fifth-lowest average unemployment rate since 2000, according to numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor compiled by bizjournals.com that measured the 100 largest metro areas.
From January 2000 to May 2011, Des Moines had a median jobless rate of 3.9 percent, behind only Madison, Wis., Honolulu, Washington, D.C., and Lancaster, Pa. Des Moines’ highest rate during that time has been 6.8 percent, and it has spent 109 of 137 months at 5 percent or less.
