Obama administration proposes cyber security legislation
The Obama administration has proposed cyber security legislation to improve protection for individuals and the federal government, BusinessInsurance.com reported. The measure, which would include national data-breach reporting, voluntary government assistance and penalties for computer criminals, was announced following a recent data breach in which hackers accessed more than 100 million consumer accounts this month. “The idea of a national standard is a good one,” said Joseph Lazzarotti, a partner with law firm Jackson Lewis LLP in White Plains, N.Y. “However, legislation has been held up in this area over the issues of pre-empting state law.”
