Weekly economic indicators improve slightly

The number of Americans claiming unemployment benefits for the first time fell slightly last week, Reuters reported. Initial claims dropped by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 386,000, according to figures released by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average, considered a better measure of labor market trends, rose by 5,500 to 374,750. In another report, the Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index was minus 31.4 in the period ended April 15, compared with a reading of minus 32.8 the previous week.
