The U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) loan program doled out $30.25 billion in loans during fiscal year 2012, the second largest dollar total ever, with Iowa receiving a total of 592 loans that were approved for $252.1 million.

Small business lending in Iowa helped create 2,778 jobs and retain an additional 6,581 jobs, the SBA regional office said. This year’s total loan amounts were only surpassed by those of fiscal year 2011, which were heavily boosted by the loan incentives under the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.
