Google invests in Iowa wind energy
Google Inc. today announced an investment of $75 million in a wind farm in Rippey.
The project, developed by RPM Access LLC, is expected to produce enough energy to power more than 15,000 homes in the state.
It will use turbines produced by Arkansas-based Nordex USA. The wind farm has contracted to sell all of the energy it produces to the Central Iowa Power Cooperative.
Google has now committed more than $990 million to wind energy projects nationwide.
The company entered a 20-year contract with NextEra Energy Resources’ Story County II wind farm in 2010.
