Iowa was one of only six states to add government jobs in the past year, according to employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics compiled by BizJournals.com.

Iowa added 100 government jobs from April 2010 to April 2011. The state added 8,500 government jobs over the previous 10 years, which was the 32nd-most among the 50 states. Iowa had 258,700 federal, state and local government jobs as of April. Texas grew the most, gaining 2,300 jobs in the past year and 286,800 in the past 10 years.
