The Urbandale City Council approved two plats that could pave the way for 11 new commercial or retail buildings in the area.

Village Centre Plat 1, a development by Trovas Development LC, is a 9.43-acre parcel at 143rd Street and Douglas Parkway that contains space for four buildings. Grading has already begun. Randy Shima, owner of the property, said one lot has been sold.

An 11,000-square-foot building is in the works that will house several offices, a dry cleaner and possibly a restaurant. Shima said two fast-food chains are also interested in lots facing Douglas.

Interstate Acres Plat 13, at Northwest Urbandale and Meredith drives, is an 11-acre lot that could house seven new buildings. Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa has already committed to building a new 15,000-square-foot facility on that plat
