The access point will include a whitewater feature, kayak launch and boat ramp, along with a recreation channel, among other amenities.
The Hubbell Trailhead is part of ICON’s effort to develop 150 miles of water trails across Central Iowa, with more than $100.3 million in funding secured so far. ICON’s strategy aims to drive economic growth, attract workforce and tourism, and support on-water safety and environmental conservation.
ICON’s 15 existing sites host more than 250,000 visitors annually, supporting more than 110 jobs, with $3.4 million in wages.
“We are incredibly grateful to Bank of America for their commitment to ICON Water Trails and our mission,” Stephanie Oppel, executive director of ICON Water Trails, said in a press release. “The dedication of partners like Bank of America makes it possible for ICON to advance our vision of revitalizing our waterways, making our communities better places to live, work, play, and visit.”
Bank of America announced its funding during a press conference Thursday at ICON’s future Hubbell Trailhead site.
“ICON Water Trails connects people and communities by connecting water,” stated Heidi Parkhurst, president, Bank of America Iowa. “We’re uplifting our local community by supporting organizations like ICON Water Trails, who are aligned with our overall goal of improving the lives of individuals and families in the areas where we live and work.”
When complete, ICON will connect more than 50 access points across 150 miles of rivers and creeks in Central Iowa.
