NOTABLE TRANSACTIONS: Des Moines buys former YMCA facility for police academy

The City of Des Moines paid Young Men’s Christian Association of Greater Des Moines $2.5 million for property at 401 E. Army Post Road (pictured) in Des Moines, Polk County real estate records show. The 11-acre parcel includes a 36,792-square-foot health and recreation facility built in 1999. The facility, which closed in 2020, will serve as an addition to the current Des Moines Police Academy, located next door at 433 E. Army Post Road. The city council approved the acquisition at its May 19 meeting. The property is valued at $3.1 million. The transaction was recorded May 30.

Explore Industrial – Elkhart I LLC, located in Winterset, paid Elkhart Properties LLC $960,000 for property at 3906 N.E. 126th Ave., in Elkhart, Polk County real estate records show. The 4.4-acre parcel is undeveloped and is zoned light industrial. The transaction was recorded May 29.

Hunter and Bridget Lane paid Iowa Trust & Savings Bank $1.1 million for residential property at 3410 Lincoln Place Drive in Des Moines, records show. The nearly 6-acre parcel includes a 3,268-square-foot house built in 1999. The transaction was recorded May 30.

Katecho Real Estate LLC, located in Des Moines, paid Army Post Development LLC $600,000 for undeveloped property at 3325 Gannett Ave. and 3355 Gannett Ave. in Des Moines, records show. The two parcels, which total nearly 14 acres, abut one another. Earlier in May, Katecho acquired seven other undeveloped parcels near Southwest 28th Street and Army Post Road. Those parcels included nearly 20 acres. Ketecho is a medical and cosmetic product manufacturer with a facility at 4020 Gannett Ave. Katecho’s most recent acquisition was recorded May 30.

Homebuilder DR Horton Iowa LLC, located in Ankeny, paid Kimberley Land LC just over $1 million for 14 residential lots in Highland Meadows Plat 5 in Urbandale, Dallas County real estate records show. The plat is in northwest Urbandale. The transaction was recorded May 27.

DR Horton Iowa LLC paid JJR Holdings LLC $1.2 million for 16 residential lots in Autumn Valley West Plat 1 in northwest Waukee, records show. The transaction was recorded May 27.
