Des Moines-based nonprofit Above + Beyond Cancer is calling for cancer survivors, caregivers and all who have been touched by cancer to apply for a trek to Africa next summer. The trip, scheduled June 13-26, has an estimated cost of $8,000 to $9,000 and includes a journey up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and a medical mission at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. “The combination of mission work plus climbing Kilimanjaro will give all the participants joining us the opportunity to live life with purpose and passion, which is something we owe ourselves and everyone whose life has been cut short by cancer,” said the organization’s founder, Dr. Richard Deming. Those interested in the journey are encouraged to complete their application by midnight on Dec. 23, through the organization’s website.
