Actress Cloris Leachman visiting Des Moines
Des Moines native and Oscar-winning actress Cloris Leachman will return to her hometown the last weekend of this month to participate in several events in her honor. The 90-year-old star will travel from her home in California for events including:
- 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27: Leachman will answer question and press her hand prints into a cement tile at the State Historical Museum of Iowa. Free.
- 4 p.m. Saturday: Leachman and lifelong friend and producer Eddie Rissien, both Roosevelt High School grads, will receive Playhouse Legends awards at the Des Moines Community Playhouse.
- 4 p.m. Sunday: Leachman and Rissien join John Busbee on KFMG’s “The Culture Buzz.”
- 6 p.m. Sunday: The Cloris Awards at the Des Moines Social Club. A local version of the Tonys, the Clorises are designed to recognize on- and offstage talent and promote a thriving theater scene here.
