Maclyn, a 25-year-old advertising and marketing agency based in suburban Chicago, has expanded its footprint in Iowa by acquiring Des-Moines based creative agency Saturday Mfg. Maclyn has been actively engaged in the Iowa business community for the last five years. The agency’s Iowa-based clients include Balance Autism, AltoonaNow and the East Polk Innovation Collaborative.

Bringing Saturday Mfg. and its roster of clients — which includes the Iowa Finance Authority, Thelma’s, the Iowa Motor Truck Association and the Iowa Bankers Association — under the Maclyn umbrella will solidify the company’s presence in Iowa and create a foundation for continued growth in the Midwest, the agencies said in a release.

“Officially creating a home in Iowa is part of our overall growth strategy for Maclyn,” said Bill Murphy, president of Maclyn. “By acquiring Saturday Mfg., we have added to our arsenal of industry leaders in the marketing world. The incredible team in Des Moines complements our larger organization, bringing even more creative ideas and our ‘enemy of average’ philosophy to our clients. It is a win-win for our partners and our staff.”

Murphy, a graduate of Drake University, said he is deeply committed to enhancing the Iowa business community and optimistic about the future in the Hawkeye State.

The Des Moines office, to be known as Maclyn West, has a staff of six, all of whom will be retained. It will be led by Saturday Mfg. co-founder Brian Sauer, who has been named a Maclyn partner and creative director for the Des Moines office.

Maclyn’s existing downtown Des Moines office in the Hub Tower will be combined into Saturday Mfg.’s office at 1717 Ingersoll Ave. It will have a total head count of 24, counting executives who split their time between Chicago and Des Moines, Murphy said. Maclyn is currently hiring for an additional ad executive for the Des Moines office.

“We are confident that Maclyn’s tradition of year-over-year growth will continue and thrive by laying a permanent foundation in Iowa,” he said. “Our Des Moines office has been established as a separate Iowa corporation. We know Iowans want to do business with other Iowans. Expanding here allows us to harness the state’s growth, help bolster the local economy and create jobs in Iowa.”
