191 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentA recently formed nonprofit plans to serve as a statewide advocate for affordable housing. The Iowa Housing Partnership is a collection of other nonprofit organizations, for-profit groups and individuals who have grown frustrated with efforts to find innovative answers to the state’s lack of affordable housing. The problem has been particularly acute in Greater Des Moines, where advocates often point out that the lack of affordable housing hinders employment efforts in a growing economy. Dan Garrett, who specializes in low-income housing tax credit programs, chairs the group, which has a mailing list of 205 individuals and organizations, including banks, developers, housing trust funds, Council of Governments, municipalities, attorneys, architects and contractors. Eric Burmeister of the Polk County Housing Trust Fund is a member of the nine-member board, as is Jennifer Cooper of Bankers Trust Co. Iowa Housing Partnership will host a forum from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Iowa Convention Center to discuss affordable housing. Iowa Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Fred Hubbell will give remarks. The forum is free, but those planning to attend are encouraged to contact Garrett at dgarrett@wncinc.com or 515-259-9407.
