AHA: D.M.’s Complete Streets policies No. 2 in nation
The city of Des Moines ranks No. 2 of the 10 best Complete Street Policies in the nation for 2018, the American Heart Association announced on Friday. Des Moines is one of 1,477 communities that adopted Complete Streets policies under the National Complete Streets Coalition, which aims to prioritize safe sidewalk access in participating cities. On average, 156 people are killed or seriously injured in traffic crashes each year in Des Moines; since 2008, there have been more deaths from traffic accidents than from violent crime in Des Moines, the American Heart Association said.
